This is a collaborative project with Art Alliance San Angelo and Discover San Angelo. Our goal is to help bring more travelers and locals to art friendly businesses that showcase local visual artists and showcase murals in our area.
In 2021 San Angelo was given the state designation as the Visual Arts Capital of Texas, which is ours for 10 years. While this is a great mark for our city we have to put it to good use while we can. By highlighting 'art friendly' businesses on this map we can not only bring more visitor traffic to local businesses and help boost our economy but we can also reinforce our designation in the process.
Below you will find the business featured in the physical map. Each one is marked with an icon that provides more context to the kind of business there. Happy hunting!
How to get on the map
How to get on the map
This map will be updated twice a year for businesses that qualify as 'art friendly' as well as include any new murals added to our community. There is no cost to the businesses or the artists (who created the murals to be featured on the map). To qualify businesses must meet these requirements:
Must be: retail, bar, restaurant, cafe, gallery, studio, or entertainment business. (Our intention is to increase normal foot traffic to these businesses)
Display at least two local artists artwork inside their business. (indoor murals do qualify).
Signs painted by local artists do not qualify. This includes logos or menus. (Can you imagine traveling across town or the state to see local art and then you find a logo or sign? Not the best experience we want for our visitors).
Artwork can be permanent or rotating art (AASA can help provide the art for your business).
Murals must be painted by local artists to qualify and can be any size or theme. (Again no logos or signs will be featured on the map).
If your business doesn't have local art but meets the minimum requirements we can help! Contact us to start the process for displaying local art in your business. We have an agreement with local business like: Martial Pint, Zero One Taproom, and Wandering Mind Brewery to display local artwork in their business. That allowed them to featured on the map for visitors to find them.
